While he was leaving his imprint as a prolific scorer with yet another Test ton, David Warner also showed his support for Sean Abbott when the opener clapped after seeing the New South Wales pacer's bowling figures on the Adelaide Oval scoreboard here today.
Abbott's bouncer to Hughes in a Sheffield Shield game late last month proved to be so fatal that the batsman's life was cut short at 25, leaving the cricketing fraternity in a state of shock and despair.
Returning to the game since that November 25 afternoon, NSW's Abbott finished with impressive figures of six for 14 in a shield game.
When the bowling figures were displayed on the scorecard on the fourth day of the first cricket Test between India and Australia, Warner, who was going great guns with the willow then, paused, and applauded Abbott's efforts by clapping.
On the first day of the ongoing Test match, an emotionally-charged Warner raised his bat and looked heaven-wards after reaching 63, the score Hughes was batting on when the tragic incident happened at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
There had been fears the 22-year-old fast bowler may have been too traumatised to play again after Hughes died from being hit by one of his rising balls at the SCG.
But he opted to play in the Sheffield Shield clash at the same venue, and showed mental resolve as he turned it into a one-man show.
