After going down fighting against Russia in their opening match, India have their task cut out when they take on South Africa in their second fixture of the BRICS U-17 football tournament at GMC Stadium here tomorrow.
India conceded an early goal against Russia but put up a solid performance in the second half, creating goal scoring chances but were unable to find the equalizer as the rival defence and keeper did well to keep their slate clean.
India coach Nicolai Adam was happy the way his team played against Russia, particularly in the second half.
"Russia is one of the teams who has the potential to qualify for the FIFA U-17 world Cup to be held in India next year. We played a tactical game to perfection putting pressure on our opponent in the second half and creating clear scoring chances and match our opponent in every department," said Adam.
"We could not score which was the difference. Now we need to work in this department as we prepare against South Africa tomorrow who have different style of play," he stated.
Even the Russian coach said India were stronger than Moldova, Latvia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"This we could achieve as we prepared well in Europe playing against strong teams in Germany and Norway. Although we need to put lot more before the U-17 World Cup and this tournament will help the boys to improve their standard as we play against teams from four different continents and their different style of play.
"In tomorrow's match against South Africa, we're not the favourites as South Africa are physically and offensively better and stronger than us and possess the quality to score at any time," summed up Adam.
