A 40-year-old state-level weightlifter, who was wanted in connection with a 2015 murder case, was arrested in outer Delhi, police said today.

Acting on a tip-off, the accused, identified as Parveen Kumar Lamba, was nabbed on July 3 near the Auchandi border, they said.

Lamba was allegedly roped in by one Sanjeev Gora, who wanted to settle scores with his business partner, police said.

Gora and the victim, Vijay Dabas, were partners in a Gurgaon pub, Ajit Kumar Singla, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), said.

They had a fallout with each other over financial matters. Dabas allegedly used to threaten Sanjeev and even demanded money from him following which Sanjeev decided to kill Dabas, he said.

Subsequently, Sanjeev roped in Deepak, Surender and Lamba to kill Dabas, the official added.

Lamba, along with his associates Gora , Surender and Deepak, had gunned down Dabas in his Rohini office on January 17, 2015.

All the accused, except Lamba, were arrested, he said.

During interrogation, the accused disclosed that due to financial constraints, he could not pursue his dream of becoming a national-level weightlifter.

He then joined Gora, a fellow weightlifter who ran a finance business, the official said.

Lamba was a state-level weightlifter and bagged the second position in 62 kg weight category in Delhi in 2001.
