Wheat and rice basmati prices fell by up to Rs 300 per quintal at the wholesale grains market today on ample stocks position against reduced offtake.
However, other grains held steady in thin trade.
Traders said sufficient stocks position on increased supplies from producing regions against reduced offtake by flour mills mainly put pressure on wheat prices.
Easing demand led to the decline in rice basmati.
In the national capital, wheat dara (for mills) fell by Rs 20 to Rs 1,730-1,740 per quintal. Atta chakki delivery followed suit and traded lower by a similar margin to Rs 1,740-1,745 per 90 kg.
Atta flour mills and maida also moved down by Rs 10 each to Rs 940-950 and Rs 980-990 per 50 kg in line with wheat trend.
In the rice section, rice basmati common and Pusa-1121 variety too declined by Rs 300 each to Rs 8,200-8,300 and Rs 6,700-7,900 per quintal, respectively.
