Wild tusker tramples one to death, injures two others

A 50-year-old man was killed and two others were injured when a wild tusker attacked them in a forest area in Odisha's Ganjam district, forest department officials said today.
Hadua Nayak, a daily labourer died when the elephant trampled him on the outskirts of Dharmapur village yesterday.
After attacking him, the tusker also attacked others who were working in the field and injured two of them, Divisional Forest Officer, Paralakhemundi R K Singh said.
The injured persons were admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here and one of them - a 75-year-old man was stated to be serious.
Irritated over the incident, several people of the area demanded immediate compensation to kin of the deceased and medical expenditure to the injured. They also demanded compensation towards the loss of cultivated paddy, which was destroyed by the elephants.
The kin of the deceased would be given Rs three lakh as per the government's policy and the injured would also get compensation as per norms, the DFO added.
