Woman among 3 held for possessing explosives

A large quantity of explosives transported in an autorickshaw were seized and three persons, including a woman, arrested by Coastal Security Group (CSG) Police at Thondi in the district today, police said.
A team of CSG made the seizure during a vehicle check conducted following a specific information.
The team led by Inspector Ramesh Kumar found 130 gelatine sticks, 100 detonators and two coils of fuse wire, in an autorickshaw which they had stopped on suspicion.
Zulfikr Ali of Thondi, his friend Karthick and S Ayisha of Tirupalaikudi, travelling in the autorickshaw, were arrested.
They told the police that they had purchased the explosives substance at Thirumeyyam in Pudukottai District.

The purpose for which they purchased the explosives was under investigation, police said, adding the three arrested were produced before a Judicial Magistrate Court here and remanded in judicial custody for 15 days.
