Woman dies due to cold in HP

The heavy rains lashed parts of Kangra and adjoining districts of Himachal Pradesh, causing a sharp drop in the mercury which claimed a life.
A 35-year-old woman died of extreme cold in the vicinity of famous Adi Himani shrine, the original seat of goddess Chamunda Devi, located at an altitude of 10,000 feet in Nagrota Bhagwan area of the Kangra district, officials said.
The deceased had gone to the temple but weather suddenly turned hostile and the women died of extreme cold while her husband was admitted to a local hospital, .
Dharamshala and Amb received 56 mm and 48 mm of rains, followed by Dehra Gopipur 27 mm, Jogindernagar 22 mm, Una 20 mm, Manali 14 mm, Gaggal 12 mm, Jubbal and Bharmaur 11 mm and Bangana 9 mm.
The higher reaches in tribal areas had another spell of moderate snowfall while sky remained overcast and stormy conditions prevailed in upper Shimla and other higher hills of the state.
The maximum temperature dropped to 29.8 degree at Una which was hottest in the region while Solan recorded a high of 27.5 degree, followed by Nahan 26.2 degree, Dharamshala 25.2 degree, Sundernagar and Bhuntar 25.0 degree, Shimla 22.0 degree and Kalpa 17.6 degree C.
The minimum temperatures also dropped by one to two degrees in the state, MeT officials said.
Keylong and Kalpa in the twin tribal districts of Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur recorded a low of 7.2 degree and 8.0 degrees respectively.
Manali recorded minimum temperature at 10.0 degree, followed by Shimla 13.1 degree, Nahan 13.5 degree (five degree below normal), Solan 15.0 degree, Bhuntar 16.2 degree, Sundernagr 17.5 degree and Palampur 17.9 degree C.
The local MeT office forecast rains, thunderstorm and snow at some places in lower, mid and higher hills during next 48 hours.
