Woman raped by policeman in J&K

A woman was allegedly raped by a policeman prompting her to commit suicide by setting herself on fire, police said today.
The woman, from Chulichan village of Batalik, was admitted to District Hospital, Kargil after she set herself ablaze.
When police reached the hospital to record her statement, the woman alleged that Sub Inspector Ramzaan of Police Post Batalik raped her a few days back, the spokesman said.
The victim said her husband did not pay heed when she informed him about the incident, the spokesman said, adding the woman then set herself ablaze by pouring Kerosene.
Police have registered a case and constituted a special investigation team for probing the case.

"Sub Inspector Mohammad Ramzaan has been arrested and subsequently suspended for allegedly raping the woman," the spokesman said.
