Prima facie, M Kamala and her son M Ravi Kumar (30), took the extreme step on Saturday as they were depressed believing that some unnatural power was targeting their family, Fourth Town police station Inspector K Balakrishna said.
The incident came to light today after Kamala's husband M Maheswara Rao, who had gone to Vizianagaram to find a sorcerer to counter what he suspected was black magic against the family, returned, the inspector said, adding Ravi worked as a software engineer in Bhubaneswar.
Their bodies were sent for post-mortem and a case has been registered, police said, adding investigations are underway.
