Jessica Fonseca (42) and her twin sons - Darren and Joshua, class IX students, were found dead with their throat slit and head injuries while their father Neil Fonseca was found badly injured with his throat half-slit.
"We have preserved the stomach contents of Jessica, Darren and Joshua. The contents will be sent for forensic test to ascertain whether they were poisoned or not," a senior officer of Kolkata Police said today.
According to him, skulls of both Darren and Joshua were "totally damaged" because of the hit by a heavy weapon, probably with the 20 pound dumbbell that was found in the room.
Incidentally, the police were suspecting that Neil had played a crucial role behind the deaths of his wife and two sons.
Asked whether the injuries of Neil were self-inflicted or not, the officer said "His condition has improved compared to what it was yesterday. But, we need him to be declared fit by the doctors and it will be the doctors who will be able to say more about his injuries."
Talking about the possible motive behind the killings, the officer said probably it was because of an extra-marital affair that Neil was currently having with somebody which became a bone of contention between the husband and wife.
The Police had yesterday said as per evidences collected from the bedroom of the third floor apartment, there was no sign of any struggle contrary to the statement given by Neil.
The Police were verifying the veracity of Neil's statement that there was a fight between him and Jessica, the officer said adding, it was difficult to believe that they had a scuffle and neither of the twins woke up, nor did his 85-year-old mother or teenage daughter, both sleeping in the adjoining room, were disturbed.
