Yamuna flowing above warning level; No flood threat says govt

Despite Yamuna flowing above the warning level, Delhi government today said that there is no danger of flood and they are prepared for deal with the situation.
Yesterday, water level of Yamuna at Old Yamuna Bridge crossed the warning level of 204.00 m as it was flowing at 204.26 m till 4 PM, which further went up to 204.68 m at night.
Today, officials recorded water level at 204.40 m, which is still above the warning level but below the danger mark of 204.83 m.
To take stock of the situation, Delhi's Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Gopal Rai inspected the Old Yamuna iron bridge and other adjacent low-lying areas yesterday.
According to the official, after the review of water level and flood situation in Delhi, he appealed to the reidents to not feel panicked and reiterated that there is no danger of floods.
Rai also visited the flood control office at ISBT and inspected the preparedness of the department.
Last night water level in Yamuna went up 204.68 m which was below of danger mark (204.83). However, the water level descended in the morning and was recorded at 204.40 m.
"All mechanisms have been put in place to deal with the situation. For emergency measures booster pumps had been fitted along the banks of the river to pump out the water. Orders have been issued for installing more pumps in low-lying areas such as Ring Road, Okhla, Majnu ka Tila, Burari, Batla House and Jahangirpuri," Rai said.
Government has also kept several boats on the riverside and divers and boatmen have been deployed to deal with any emergency situation.
A close watch is being maintained on the flood situation in capital.
Officials claims water released from Hathnikund Barrage is around 30,000 cusec which will not have any major impact on the water level.
