Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh today encouraged people, particularly the youngsters, to practise yoga for personality development and memory improvement.
Yoga not only strengthens an individual's memory, but also helps people spiritually to focus on their goal, Singh said at an event marking the International Yoga Day at Balbeer Singh Juneja Indoor Stadium here which was attended by over 1,000 students from around 17 schools.
Citing the benefits of yoga and meditation, he said practising yoga is very important from the students' point of view as it helps in development of their personality as well as sharpens their memory.
Singh also appealed to the students to compulsorily practise yoga in their day-to-day life for mental and physical fitness.
Under the guidance of experts, Singh performed various 'asanas' along with Raipur MP Ramesh Bais, Chief Secretary Vivek Dhand, Director General of Police AN Upadhayay.
"Yoga and meditation are India's thousand years old therapy. It has been part of our life from age-old times. With the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it acclaimed global recognition. It is a matter of great happiness and pride for us," he said.
The Chief Minister also administered a pledge to the students on the occasion to practise yoga to live a healthy and happy life.
Yoga events were held across Chhattisgarh at several places, including all district headquarters, where state Cabinet ministers, MP, MLAs and public representatives performed 'asanas' along with participants.
