According to police, victim Pravin Baliram Tamhane (19) was attacked by his relative Tukaram Halya Tamhane (50) yesterday in Ambeshiv village near Badlapur on suspicion that Pravin had set his motorcycle ablaze sometime back.
Tamhane had hit the youth by an axe, injuring him seriously, assistant police inspector at Kulgaon police station Dhananjay Pore said.
The relative is at large from last evening and police has launched a hunt to nab him.
An offence under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) was registered against Tamhane and further investigation was on, he added.
