The deceased, identified as Sudhir, was an interior decorator, who lived with his parents in the locality. The police have found no suicide note from his possession, said DCP (Outer) Vikramjit Singh.
Prima facie it is a case of suicide. The body has been sent for a postmortem examination and the report is awaited. Meanwhile, an inquest has been initiated into the matter, said Singh.
The incident was reported around 3 AM, when some locals noticed the body and called up the police control room. The rope was cut and Sudhir's body was brought down, after which is was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead, said police.
Soon, a police team had to be deployed there and things came under control only after senior officials intervened.
The police are likely to register a case of rioting and damaging public property under relevant sections of IPC and arrest "miscreants" who resorted to violence, taking advantage of the circumstances, said a senior official.
Relatives of Sudhir have alleged that he was murdered, but the police have come across no such leads yet. "Further legal action will follow after we obtain the initial postmortem report, which shall tell about the time and cause of death," Singh said.
