Groundnut oil firmed up further yesterday on limited arrivals from the producing centres against better demand, whereas other industrial oils ruled better-to-steady at the wholesale oils and oilseeds market here yesterday. Imported palmolein ruled firm.
In the futures section, castorseeds June contract remained untraded, while September contract opened lower but firmed up towards closing.
Groundnut oil improved further by Rs four at Rs 434 on per 10 kg. In other oils, kardi oil and mowra oil improved by Rs five each to Rs 565 and Rs 315 per 10 kg, respectively. Ricebran oil and karanji oil advanced by Rs five each to Rs 218 and Rs 185 per 10 kg, respectively. Sesame oil and sunflower oil expeller eased by Rs five and Rs two to Rs 415 and Rs 398 per 10 kg, respectively. Imported palmolein looked up further by Re one at Rs 376 per 10 kg. In the futures market, castorseeds September contract closed at Rs 1,383 a quintal on speculative movements.
In oilseeds, castorseeds Maharashtra and Madras looked up further by Rs five each to Rs 1,320 and Rs 1,314 a quintal, respectively.
Sugar: A slight recovery was witnessed in sugar prices yesterday.
Sugar M-30 looked up to Rs 14,75/1,526, while sugar S-30 firmed up to Rs 1,450/1,490 a quintal
Meanwhile, sugar for the check-post deliveries were quoted lower at Rs 1,435/1,445 a quintal for S-30 and Rs 1,460/1,480 a quintal for M-30.
Non-ferrous metals: An upward trend was noticed in the local non-ferrous metals market yesterday.
In the scraps section, copper heavy scraps firmed up by 50 paise, while copper utensils, brass utensils, brass sheetcuttings and aluminium utensils firmed up by 25 paise each to Rs 115.50, Rs 99.25, Rs 88.75, Rs 92.25 and Rs 63.25 a kg, respectively.
In the virgin section, tin slabs improved by Rs two at Rs 360 a kg. Copper wirebar firmed up by 50 paise whereas aluminium ingots, zinc slabs and lead ingots hardened by 25 paise each to Rs 130.50 and Rs 82.25, Rs 77.50 and Rs 42.50 a kg, respectively. Nickel cathodes improved by Rs three at Rs 298 a kg.
Bullion: An upward trend was noticed in the local bullion market yesterday.
In white metals, silver .999 and .916 looked up by Rs 35 and Rs 45 to Rs 7,565 and Rs 7,445 a kg, respectively.
In yellow metals, both _ standard gold and 22-carat strengthened further by Rs 15 each to Rs 4,200 and Rs 3,885 per 10 grammes, respectively. The consumer demand remained moderate at improved level. Gold biscuit prices also improved further by Rs 200 at Rs 49,300 per piece of gold bar.
