Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy on Sunday said that his government would provide five acre of land for the satellite campus of IIM Kozhikode (IIMK) in Kochi.
Speaking on the occasion of the launch of the campus, he said that every two to three members in the Cabinet would be an IIMK student soon. IIMK students will also assist the ministers in the development initiatives of the state and e-literacy.
The Kochi campus focuses on executive education with full, part-time or short-term programmes as well as specialised courses for middle and senior management employees to enhance and upgrade skills for better career prospects.
Addressing the media, Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIMK said that the satellite campus will initially offer a one-year residential executive MBA programme as well as two-year part-time programmes in addition to a large number of short and long-term management development programmes.
It will commence admissions from October 2012.
The programme brochure was released by K Babu, minister for fisheries, ports and excise.
Started in 1997 with its postgraduate programme (PGP), IIMK is on a high-growth trajectory today, offering the widest range of academic programmes in the field of management education. PGP students' intake for 2009 was 309 students, five times in seven years, thus making it the fastest-growing management school in the country.
Its PGDM programme has an enrolment of around 400 students, while the satellite-based interactive onsite learning programme has over 500 participants every year.
At this juncture, expansion of IIMK’s operations outside the Kozhikode campus is integral to the vision of Kerala as an emerging hub for young knowledge workers, a press release said.
