Stock markets witnessed subdued trading yesterday and selling pressure from domestic financial institutions, foreign institutional investors and local funds pushed the sensitive index of the Bombay Stock Exchange down 32.86 points. The index dropped below the psychological mark of 3400 to close at 3389.49.
Trading interest will today shift to the National Stock Exchange where brokers would square off positions. The NSE-50 yesterday slipped to close at 977 against the previous close of 1001.75 on Friday last. Trading volumes at the major bourses were lower than last week.
The trading at the BSE was worth Rs 614.24 crore, with the specified group contributing Rs 583.25 crore. At the NSE, traded volumes stood at Rs 1,465.44 crore.
