Turnover Peaks To Rs 1553.58 Crore

The wholesale debt market in the National Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday witnessed the highest-ever turnover of Rs 1,553.58 crore. Corporate debentures contributed Rs 10.94 crore to the total volume.

The newly issued six-year paper was traded for Rs 650 crore at a weighted average yield of 11.56 per cent against the auction yield of 11.83 per cent. The 12.59 per cent 2004 registered a turnover of Rs 370 crore at an yield of 11.77 per cent, while the 13.65 per cent 1999 was traded for Rs 50 crore at 8.99 per cent yield. A repo deal was concluded in the 13.50 per cent 1998 government stock for Rs 20 crore for a repo term of 14 days at 5.20 per cent.

The July 3, 1998, treasury bill was traded for Rs 5 crore and the April 24, 1998, for Rs 15 crore. The yields worked out to 7.58 per cent and 7.18 cent respectively.

In corporate debentures, the 14 per cent Reliance Industries 2000 was traded in the wholesale market for Rs 10.15 crore at an yield of 13.57 per cent, while the zero per cent Reliance Petro PPD for Rs 74.37 lakh at an yield of 18.36.

The 16 per cent MRPL 2002 counter saw 41 trades worth Rs 2.30 lakh and the 12.50 per cent Reliance H - 2002 collected Rs 2 lakh.

The rest of the debentures were only marginally traded.
