Rishabh Pant, who scored a brilliant fifty (52* off 28 balls) to take India to the total of 186 in the first innings, pipped Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel and Rovman Powell over to be adjudged Player of the Match for his efforts.

While Patel gave just eight runs in the 18th over, Kumar, who dropped Powell of his own bowling in the 17th over, came back strong and removed Pooran to break the stand and gave only four runs, asking West Indies to score 25 in the last over to win the game. With 24 needed off the last four balls, Harshal bowled in Powell's hitting zone and he hit two straight sixes to run a shiver of scare down the Indian dugout. But the RCB bowler kept his nerves and executed brilliant yorkers, in the end, to win it for India.

 

Earlier in the day, the Indian team managed to get to 186-5 in its 20 overs thanks to fifties from Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant and also a brilliant knock of 33 by Venkatesh Iyer. Pant remained unbeaten on 52* while Kohli departed for 52 as well, just after scoring his fifty.

India cricket team defeated the West Indies cricket team in the second match of the three-match T20I series at the Eden Gardens, Kolta by eight runs on Friday, February 18, 2022, to seal the series. India had won the first match by six wickets to take a 1-0 lead earlier in the series.

 

The match got tensed after a brilliant 115 run stand between Nicholas Poor and Rovaman Powell with both the players going on to hit the fifties and bringing down the target to only 37 runs needed from the last three overs while chasing down 187 for victory. However, three brilliant overs- two from Harshal Patel, the 18th and 20th and one from Bhuvneshwar Kumar turned the tide back in India's favour.

Rovman Powell must now be congratulated for the kind of innings that he has played in the game. There were very few bad shots, shots that might have got his wicket. Other than that he was flawless. No doubt one of his catches was dropped but the power with which he was hitting the ball was just unseen previously. 

 

And the way he was hitting, it was looking effortless as well. Had Pooran just managed to rotate the strike in the 18th and the 19th over and hit the odd boundary to get to it many be 18-20 from the last over with eight wickets in hand, Powell might have won West Indie yet another game.

Harshal Patel had 25 runs to defend and it was definitely not a tough job but was made one by brilliant hitting from Rovman Powell as he hit two sixes in a row to remind everyone of Carlos Brathwaite and his brilliance from six years ago at the same venue. But then the man showed why he is trusted over many others in the country as he executed back to back Yorkers to give India the win. He gave way only 16 runs and defended the target very well. 

 

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was brilliant in the 19th over as well. After dropping Powell earlier, Bhuvi came back strong and removed Pooran and gave away only four runs to build on to the pressure built by Harshal in the 18th over as he gave away only eight runs in that over.
