Mobile apps have taken over almost everything, games to social networking to business to travel. Year 2013 saw many graphic-intensive versions of the adventurous Temple Run, puzzles such as Candy Crush, strategy games like the Clash of Clans and frequent updates to social networking platforms like Whatsapp, Hike, Line, Facebook Messenger and Twitter. The coming year offers many new apps. Tanima Banerjee gives you a sneak peek:

Oasis
This story-based finite runner game is set to offer an alternative to those who have had enough of Temple Run. It offers fully hand-drawn animations, with near-seamless transition. The game has a defined end. Strategic and action-packed, it makes the player travel five worlds to reach an oasis, as the world itself has come to an end. For traditionalists, it comes with the endless runner mode as well. To be on all platforms for free.

Fright Fight
A three-dimensional online multi-player for iOS and Android devices. It is a fantasy-horror game, with fighting techniques, combos and fight effects in various arenas.

Prisonhood
Just like The Simpsons: Tapped Out, this game, based on the American television serial drama, Prison Break, could become addictive. One can make a gang, make money, enter into a brawl with inmates, break rules and change avatars.

Flag it!
Puzzle game Flag it!, with 100 levels, could be recreational, like Brandomania. You could learn in those short office breaks. The challenge is to recreate the country flags of the world in a minute and identify those while re-constructing. It will come for Rs 65.

Peggle
Pinball never grows old. Peggle, a hit on Apple iOS devices, recently made its way to the Android platform. The 'aim, hit and eliminate' game has interesting graphics and an addictive gameplay.

Gestures
A photo editor, it is set to come for iPhones. It boasts a neat interface, unlike other editors'. It will allow you to apply filters instantly with a scroll over the picture. A pinch will allow you to view thousands of pictures in thumbnail or timeline mode. Apart from effects and shooting modes, it allows you to select multiple photos by tapping two thumbnails. It also allows you to share and manage photos.

Quest Log
An iPhone organisational app, it is set to release in March for free. It is a motivational to-do list that lets you set goals after tracking your daily activities and progress. It encourages you to complete all tasks and move to higher levels. It comes with a Stat Calendar and colour themes.

Keylium
To be available on iStore, it aspires to be a career-advancing social network. One could forge connections and give news about jobs.

Kites
A travel app that sends geo-sensitive messages on entering a location. It is different from Foursquare in the way it allows you to connect through notes and pictures. One can connect to it via a social networking site and even leave messages for friends, viewable when they come close to the set location. It will be available for free on all Android devices.

Quicken 2014
A business management app, it synchronises desktop information with Android mobiles and tablets. For cash flow and budgeting, it helps you store receipts, view balances and transactions, understand complex graphs and track expenses.
