Don’t be fooled by his passion for BlackBerry mobiles and Apple iPods. Viresh Oberoi, managing director and CEO, mjunction, can think beyond the usual devices

Is there any technology in particular you are tracking?
It would be the “intelligent home” concept that allows one to control appliances, lighting and various other gadgets via programmable units from anywhere in the home, PC, or mobile phone. Intelligent homes are also eco-friendly and contribute towards curbing global warming.

Can you work without gadgets in your hand?
I have calculated the position of satellites using pen and paper, which was a bit tedious initially, but once you get the hang of it, it’s easy. High school math does come in handy, you know.

What would be a perfect geeky gift for you?
Kindle, launched by Amazon.com, is a new portable wireless reading device with the ability to download books, blogs, magazines and newspapers. It’s a revolutionary electronic-paper display and provides a sharp, high-resolution screen that reads and feels like a real newspaper.

Name one ultra-expensive device you are eyeing?
That would be a Hummer. With global warming issues I should ideally be looking at a hybrid car as my next car, but in Kolkata, the Hummer is the only choice.

What is your most elegant gadget?
I like the Samsung LCD TV I bought recently. It has amazing clarity, including a fast response time, HDMI inputs and what-not.

Is there a gadget you like experimenting with?
My Sony DVD Camcorder. I’m also looking forward to getting my hands on the Apple iPhone.

Do you like showing off your gadgets?
Yes, when they are as smart as the universal remote commander.

Which gadget have you yet to master?
The microwave.
