Microland, which specialises in IT infrastructure management outsourcing services, has expanded its operations in Bangalore with the opening of a global technology support centre on Monday.

"It will house 750 people supporting global customers across 13 new countries. The new facility will process over 4 million transactions a year," said Microland Chairman and Managing Director Pradeep Kar.

The new facility has been built using telecom technology from Avaya and Nortel. "Integrating voice, e-mail and chat support, the new centre integrates tech support with IT Infrastructure Management Services (IMS) capability," Kar added.

He contended that Indian companies were continually aim at moving up the value chain to command higher margins.

"Our move to launch a separate centre integrated with IMS is to increase our capabilities in providing high-end services to meet the demands of our global customers. Tech Support and Infrastructure Management outsourcing are growing at a faster pace than traditional software development and Business Process Outsourcing," he said.

Earlier in the year, Microland inaugurated its first Multi Network Operations Centre facility housing six Network Operation Centres, six Technology Labs, one Penetration Testing Centres and four Data Centres.

The six Network Operations Centres has allowed Microland to expand and utilise it for transition of customers' remote operations. "To ensure 100 per cent uptime, four levels of power redundancy have been installed. Biometric security for Data Centres and Network Operations Centres will ensure that customer data and operational integrity are at the highest levels," the company said.

Headquartered in Bangalore, with 2,000 professionals in the USA, UK, West Asia and India, Microland serves global customers.

The company has identified Remote Infrastructure Management Services (RIMS) as one of the business lines for growth. In March, the company launched various initiatives to tap the fast growing RIMS segment.

According to Nasscom, RIMS - a high potential segment that needs specialist skills - is considered the next wave of growth for the Indian IT industry. Infrastructure Management Services is an untapped market opportunity of $110 billion that provides significant growth prospects for Indian IT services companies. Nasscom estimates that IT services exports from the remote infrastructure outsourcing model market in India will grow to $7 billion by 2010.
