With mental health being a rising concern in a digitally connected world, access to genuine support has often been a barrier. A subject that was once spoken about in hushed tones, mental health is now being written about and discussed on various media platforms. However, one not-for-profit is going a step further to ensure the knowledge of mental health techniques reaches all and improves lives across the globe. Tava-Mitram which means "Your Friend" (in Sanskrit) is a not-for-profit established in 2016 by two coaches with a future-forward empathetic vision.
Tava-Mitram has been conceptualized as a support to people who do not have access to mental health training or are unable to sign up for professional services. The group was formed by ICF and EMCC -certified Coach Dr. Paras and his sister, ICF-certified Ekktaa with a vision to create healthier minds and resourceful space for people to live happily, peacefully, and successfully. As a Spiritual Coach, Ekktaa leads with Dr. Paras to train a group of mentors who play the role of Mitra Coaches (volunteers). The group sessions are held free of cost and have been extended online in the face of the pandemic.
Tava-Mitram's effort to change the thinking, feeling, and actions of individuals and resolve their internal conflicts has given hope in turbulent times. Registrants can even vent their feelings in the "Confession Box" online to discard their internal stress. Tava-Mitram thus plays the role of a 'supportive friend' in a non-judgmental manner while installing techniques that strengthen the minds of all.
The initiative which began at Tava-Mitram's Pune office in India has soon seen its reach spreading across the globe. Tava-Mitram also launched the hugely successful, "My Mental Health, My Priority" certification in May 2020. The campaign reached out to everyone online while requiring a simple sign-up to launch the certification program. The program includes vital information through a 12 video series format to rebuild lives by exploring deep theories of psychology simplified for the benefit of all. The campaign witnessed 6000+ registrations that spanned over 50 countries.
Tava-Mitram soon launched the "Mental Health Matters" campaign in October 2020. As the month brought the focus on "World Mental Health Day" (October 10), the entire campaign witnessed prominent people from various industries who shared their knowledge in the areas of mental health, counseling, and therapy. They held Live Streaming on popular social media platforms wherein viewers could discuss their issues in real-time. Viewers could also learn new techniques for no cost at all from the many counselors, therapists, and mental health professionals who were a part of this program. Topics such as the effects of mental health for women, Gandhian philosophy, body shaming, neuro-science and music, and more were discussed in detail in invigorating and thought-provoking LIVE sessions.
Tava-Mitram continues to put its best foot forward to create a safe space for the discussion on mental health. Volunteers offer their time and skill while raising donations for Tava-Mitram. Donations are used for the betterment of mental health worldwide.
