Taiwan suspended flights, rail transport and ferry services along with classes and outdoor events and urged workers to stay home on Sunday as Typhoon Haikui churned across the southern part of the island.

The typhoon made landfall in Taitung county on the Pacific-facing east coast around 3 pm (0700 GMT) Sunday, bringing sustained winds of 155 kph (96 mph) and gusts of 190 kph (120 mph).

Fake notes of Rs 41 lakh face value seized in Odisha's Sonepur

Fake Indian currency notes of Rs 41.16 lakh face value was seized in Odisha's Sonepur district and one person was arrested, officials said on Sunday.

The fake notes are of Rs 500 denominations, and meet many security features of a genuine note, they said.

The seizures were made from near Ulunda by the Special Task Force (STF) of the state police's Crime Branch, they added.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on banning polygamy in the state

A legal committee was formed to check if polygamy can be banned by the state govt or not. Later, we asked the public for their opinion if they had any objections. We received a total of 149 suggestions from the public, out of these, 146 suggestions were in favour of banning polygamy and 3 suggestions were against this. We will now proceed to the next phase of the process, which is to complete the final drafting of the bill in the next 45 days, which will also include the issue of 'love jihad'. I expect that in December, we will be able to table this bill in the State Assembly

Domestic flights were cancelled and almost 3,000 people were evacuated as Taiwan girded for the arrival of Typhoon Haikui on Sunday, which is expected to bring torrential rain and strong winds to the island's south and east. Haikui is forecast to make landfall in the mountainous and sparsely populated far southeast of Taiwan late Sunday afternoon, with counties and cities in the east and south cancelling classes and declaring a day off for workers.
