Japanese imaging and optical major Canon had discussions with all those engaged in key semiconductor manufacturing projects in India and plans to bring its technology and service centres to the country, said its India President and CEO Toshiaki Nomura. Canon, a global supplier of lithography systems used in semiconductor manufacturing, said it is looking to support the development of India's semiconductor ecosystem as the government steps up efforts to establish domestic chip fabrication capabilities. The Japanese technology major is sensing a "great opportunity" in the upcoming semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem promoted by the government, and the company will bring its technologies (lithographic machines) to help assist chip manufacturers to produce chips in India, he said. India is a "prominent" market for Japanese imaging and printing solutions provider Canon that has "long-term growth ambitions" as it looks to tap rising demand in smaller cities, said its India President & CEO Toshiaki Nomura. The company, which aims for 10,000 active resellers in India by 2027, has been recording double-digit growth across its core businesses. It is betting on rising demand from smaller cities, content creators, enterprises and government institutions to drive the next phase of growth in its printing business. The expansion plan aims to improve product accessibility and strengthen Canon's presence across emerging markets. "India is one of the focused markets globally for Canon, and we are constantly growing at double-digit rates every year," Nomura told PTI. Japanese imaging and optical products major Canon believes that it has a good opportunity in India for its semiconductor lithography equipment required for chip fabrication, and it is in negotiations with companies setting up facilities here, said its India President and CEO Toshiaki Nomura. Though Canon did not disclose names, it said there are immense opportunities in this, as many chip manufacturers are now eying India as a new destination for semiconductor manufacturing. "A lot of Chip manufacturers are eyeing India as a new manufacturing place. We are discussing with all those chip manufacturers to give our product and service," Nomura told PTI. This is a "good opportunity for us", and the Tokyo-based group can contribute through its technology, products and services in this segment of the Indian market, he added.
