The government will roll out FASTag-based annual pass from August 15 to ease toll payments and cut congestion; aimed at private vehicle users for smoother highway travel

Vehicles equipped with On-Board Units (OBUs) featuring GNSS will automatically have tolls deducted based on the distance travelled, with the initial 20 km being free of charge

The Parliament was informed on Monday

From December 15, 2019 FASTag will be mandatory. If FASTag is missing from your vehicle, the driver will have to pay double the toll tax

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had earlier announced that from December 1, toll payments on highways would be accepted through FASTags only

The government had been pushing for e-tolling prior demonetisation as well
