India's 100 richest see combined wealth fall by 9 per cent to $1 trillion, reflecting market volatility and currency headwinds

Billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries has retained its position as the highest-ranked Indian company on the 2025 Fortune Global 500 list, according to the latest rankings released by the publication. The oil-to-telecom-and-retail conglomerate has been ranked at No.88 on the latest list, down from 86th position in 2024. However, the company has gained a whopping 67 places in the last four years, from No.155 in 2021. US retail giant Walmart continues to be the top-ranked company in the world, followed by Amazon. The top 10 has three Chinese companies - state-owned electric utility State Grid at No.3, China National Petrol at No.5 and oil and gas giant Sinopec Group at No.6. World's largest oil exporter Saudi Aramco is ranked at No.4 and Apple at No.8. India has 9 companies in the Fortune's Global 500 list this year - 5 of them from the public sector and 4 from the private sector. The Global 2000 ranks the largest companies in the world using four metrics: sales, profits, assets, and market value, Forbes said while releasing the 2023 ranking of the world's top 2,000 companies

Reliance Industries, the country's largest company by revenues, profits and market value, is India's best employer and the world's 20th best firm to work with, according to Forbes' World's Best Employers rankings 2022. The global ranking was topped by South Korean giant Samsung Electronics, followed by US giants Microsoft, IBM, Alphabet and Apple. US companies occupy rankings from 2nd to 12th , followed by German automaker BMW Group at 13th. The world's largest online retailer Amazon is ranked 14th in the list and French giant Decathlon is at 15th rank. Oil-to-telecom-to-retail conglomerate Reliance, with 2,30,000 employees, is ranked 20th - the highest ranked Indian firm. It is ranked above Mercedes-Benz of Germany, US beverage maker Coca-Cola, Japanese auto giants Honda and Yamaha, and Saudi Aramco. There is no Indian company other than Reliance in the top 100. "Energy and banking sector corporations were among the highest-ranking Indian companies in Forbes' Global 2000 list of public companies this year," the publication said.

Agriculture startup Aquaconnect, BeatO (biotech and healthcare), Bellatrix Aerospace (logistics and transportation), Betterplace (education and recruitment) are among the Indian firms in the list

In March 2020, Ambani was ranked 21st on Forbes' annual billionaire list, with a net worth of $36.8 billion, while Page and Brin were 13th and 14th.
