The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has signed a loan agreement for up to USD 75 million with ECOM Agroindustrial Corp Ltd and its group company ECOM Agroindustrial Asia Pte Ltd to support coffee supply chains across Asia, JICA said on Wednesday. The loan, co-financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), marks JICA's first exclusive working capital loan and aims to strengthen cooperation with global agricultural trading companies to support Asia's agricultural and food supply chains. The financing will support stable procurement of coffee from over 60,000 smallholder farmers in India, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Vietnam, JICA said in a statement. Agriculture secretary Devesh Chaturvedi on Friday pitched for further collaboration between India and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in farm and allied sectors. The JICA has expressed interest in collaborating for integration of cutting-edge technologies like drones and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Indian agriculture. L&T Finance Holdings on Tuesday said it will borrow USD 125 million (about Rs 1,038 crore) from the Japan International Cooperation Agency for on-lending to women and other segments. The two entities have signed a financing pact, under which 40 per cent of the money will be allocated to women borrowers, while the rest will support farmers, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and loans to purchase new two-wheeler vehicles, including electric two-wheelers. The loan is being raised from JICA as part of a co-financing agreement with Asian Development Bank (ADB) in addition to USD 125 million it had raised from ADB in November last year. LTFH's chief financial officer Sachinn Joshi said the agreement with JICA is a substantial step toward driving sustainability and positive business impact. Japan's ambassador to India Hiroshi Suzuki said on Wednesday that the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project will bring about a high-speed rail "revolution" upon completion. He was speaking after visiting a construction site of the Surat High Speed Rail (HSR) station on the bullet train route along with National HSR Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) Managing Director Rajendra Prasad. The project has been funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). "I could just see that huge construction work is underway in full throttle, and I look forward to working closely with my Indian friends in the spirit of one project, one team. When this huge project is complete, I am sure it will bring about a new revolution," the ambassador told reporters.
