Turn blind eye to internal job opportunities

Job opportunities in the market may have become fewer, but that is not stopping 85% of the total workforce from eyeing greener pastures. Most employees are either actively looking for a job or open to talking to recruiters about relevant opportunities, says an annual exit survey by LinkedIn.

The number of employees looking to exit jobs went up by five% since last year. The so-called employees who claim to be 'satisfied' with their jobs too feature in the list of those searching for jobs, says the professional networking website.  

India should be worried the most by the trend, since it has the one of the highest attrition rates. “India experiences 17% employee turnover annually, 12.6% of which is preventable,” said LinkedIn, in a press release.

Career advancement is the top reason why employees look to shift jobs. A number of employers claim that they have formal internal mobility programmes for those who are looking for better opportunities. Unfortunately, many employees overlook such internal job opportunities provided by their employers, the survey says.

“LinkedIn research shows that recruiters often overestimate the visibility of their internal mobility programmes by more than twice and it's costing them big. Most employees are not even aware of their companies' internal mobility programmes, therefore they end-up searching for external career-advancement opportunities, thus increasing preventable turnover,” the survey said.
