Energy transmission and distribution major Areva T&D India Ltd was today awarded a contract for construction of switchyard for Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam’s 1,000 Mw Anpara D thermal power project in Sonebhadra district.

“It is a significant step to expedite the implementation of this crucial power project to meet the specified timelines with the objective of meeting the ever-increasing power demand in the state,” UP Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) CMD and UP Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (UPPTCL) Chairman Navneet Sehgal said here.

The project is estimated to cost Rs 396 crore. The agreement documents of the project were exchanged between UPPTCL MD Narendra Bhooshan and top Areva officials here.

The project is scheduled for commissioning during 2011-12, which would help UP partially tide over the power crisis. The state routinely faces demand-supply gap of around 3,000 Mw, especially during summers.

The construction of switchyard for a power project is an extremely critical part towards initiation of power generation.

The project involves three phases. The first phase, to be completed by March 2011, includes constructing a 400 Kv switchyard.

In the second phase, setting up of first generator transformer, 1,000 MVA ICT, associated 765 Kv Unnao and Anpara-C line bays along with line and bus reactors will be implemented.

Setting up of second generator transformer and completion of switchyard will be accomplished in third phase by December 2011.

Earlier, the state government had approved public sector giant BHEL offer of Rs 3,390 crore to implement the power project. BHEL's scope of work involves design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of the BTG (boiler turbine generator) package along with associated auxiliaries, balance of plant and civil works.
