The Alumni Association of the Indian Institute of Management - Bangalore (IIMB-AA) has selected Abhishek Mukherjee (PGP 1976), Praveen K Kopalle (PGP 1988) and Sonjoy Chatterjee (PGP 1994) for the distinguished alumni award for the year 2011.

The award instituted in 2008 is given every year to those few alumni of IIMB who have excelled in industry or academia and thereby contributed to the society. The awards will be presented in Bangalore on October 28, the 38th foundation day of the institute, a press release said.

Mukherjee is a founding member of Compaq India which was instrumental in transforming the Indian computer industry. Presently, he is a management consultant, investor and mentor.

Kopalle is teaching at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth college and is a consultant to many Fortune 500 companies in the USA. Chatterjee is Chairman of Goldman Sachs India and was also the founding MD and CEO of ICICI Bank UK. In 2007, the bank became India’s largest overseas banking entity.

Commenting on the awards, Pankaj Chandra, Director, IIMB said, “For close to three decades now, IIMB students have made significant contributions to industry, commerce, academia and society on a global basis. The DAA is just one of the ways in which the Institute applauds and recognises their roles as brand ambassadors of the Institute. I extend my congratulations and best wishes to this year’s winners.”
