Chinese telecom equipment maker Huawei today said it is proactively co-operating with the Indian government to evolve a security paradigm uniquely suited to India's needs.
"We are not only fully compliant with laws and regulations but are also actively involved in evolving a security paradigm uniquely suited to India’s needs...Huawei has continuously invested in India for local R&D, service, and manufacturing, among other areas," Huawei said in a statement.
Media reports had suggested that Huawei has links with People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the Chinese ministry of state security and that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) be cautious in its dealings with the Chinese firm.
"It is a matter of record that Huawei offered its entire value chain for scrutiny by any competent officer or agency chosen by the Government of India on an anywhere anytime basis. Huawei has also invited personnel from media and government to visit their premises in China for this purpose," it said.
Huawei said it remains committed to all governments to be open and comply with supervisory regulations and to operators to deliver secure network.
It said it is setting up a new R&D campus in Bangalore with total investment of USD 150 million, which will double the capacity from the current 2500-plus local staff.
It has also set up a Global Network Operations Centre (GNOC) at Bangalore to cater to its customers, making Huawei India a global resource centre. In telecom equipment manufacturing, in year 2011, Huawei set up six production lines in two separate facilities in Chennai.
