The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has asked the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) to give recommendations on how the different spectrum usage charge (SUC) should be applied for commercial and captive usage of satellite services, as the regulator had suggested earlier.

In a recent communication, the DoT asked Trai to suggest formula for SUC for all kinds of captive and commercial satellite services.

It has also sought Trai’s suggestions on pricing of spectrum in cases where it can not be discovered through auction including cases of non-commercial usage, captive usage by commercial entities and usage for social purposes, such as community radio. Currently, these spectrum is allocated at administrative price.
