US-based science and engineering company DuPont opened an integrated ballistics facility here on Thursday. It is its first such facility in the Asia Pacific region and the fifth site worldwide for testing protection materials in ballistics applications.

The facility, located at the DuPont Knowledge Center in Genome Valley, houses a ballistics testing range, a 600-tonne helmet press and stab testing equipment in a single location.

According to technology leader at the DuPont Knowledge Center Yati Waghray, the new facility will enable DuPont to collaborate with local customers and end-users (Indian defence and internal security forces) and jointly develop appropriate ballistics solutions and applications for protective vests and helmets that can be tested under local conditions and against local ammunition using international standards, meeting the local requirements.

“DuPont is committed to bringing its science-powered innovations to meet the key global challenges of food, energy and protection in India. The DuPont Ballistics facility at DuPont Knowledge Center, India, exemplifies DuPont’s belief of inclusive innovation and open collaboration, working with customers and partners in India and around the world to develop solutions that help protect those who protect us,” Rajeev Vaidya, DuPont president – South Asia, who launched the facility, said.
