The shopping centres and malls may have seen lesser footfalls ahead of Christmas last year due to economic slowdown, but when it comes to online market place, the number of window shoppers has grown quite handsomely in November 2012.

According to the Internet Economy Watch Report for November 2012 released by the Internet & Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), the number of users who visited e-tailing portals in November 2012 stood at 71.78 million, an increase of 25.6% when compared with the same period in 2011.

Out of the different categories, footwear and branded apparel was one of the most-searched items on the online market place. There has been a significant year-on-year growth of 71% and 56% respectively in the online visit to footwear and branded apparel segments of e-tailing portals during that period, the report added.

While the footwear segment registered 5.31 million online hits in November 2012 as compared to 3.11 million in November 2011. The branded apparel segment witnessed 6.42 million visits in November 2012 as compared to 4.12 million in the corresponding month last year. Designer labels and jewellery segment registered a substantial y-o-y growth of 14% and 15% respectively.

The monthly internet tracker by IAMAI is based on absolute numbers captured from various relevant sites, and encapsulates online usage for E-tailing, Online Travel and Vertical Classifieds.

Despite the skyrocketing price of air tickets, the number of air tickets booked online has increased from 1.11 million in November 2011 to 1.47 million in November 2012. Irctc.com, the portal of Indian Railways, also registered 16% increase in bookings in November 2012 when compared with the numbers in 2011.

The number of uploads on matrimonial websites has gone up from 0.51 million in November 2011 to 0.79 million in November 2012, registering 55% growth. The number of resume uploads on job portals reached 1.34 million in November 2012 as compared to 0.99 in November 2011, it added.
