Offering a new enterprise engineering solutions to Indian retailers, US-based retailer Kroger Co and Ahmedabad-based eInfochips along with Wincor Nixdorf have launched retail site intelligence (RSI).

Through the RSI architecture, retail stores can use ZigBee wireless mesh networks to integrate long battery life sensors, hand held devices, point-of-sale devices and video management software into a platform for retail applications such as loss prevention, store automation and analytics. The companies will demonstrate the RSI video management solution in booth #6141at ISC West 2014.

“We are leveraging technology to help customers have the best possible shopping experience in retail stores, whether by more easily finding the products they want or saving time at checkout. We expect Retail Site Intelligence to be the cornerstone of the technology infrastructure for Kroger stores in the future,” said Chris Hjelm, Kroger’s Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer.

As part of the collaboration, Ahmedabad-based IT and ITeS firm eInfochips is developing products for RSI such as new wireless devices (cameras, scanners, scales, and more) featuring ZigBee wireless technology and Vigil360, a new video management software kernel designed specifically for RSI.

According to Parag Mehta, CMO at eInfochips, the Retail Site Intelligence is aimed at resolving some of these challenges through the use of state of art technology.

“Video Surveillance products producing real time alerts, sensors and scanners providing real time data on status of good, customer’s purchases and patterns enabling retail players to reduce losses, provide services that help build customer satisfaction and loyalty. Our collaboration with Kroger to develop products for their Retail Site Intelligence Initiative embodies the trend of businesses partnering with technology companies to develop intellectual property for a sustainable competitive edge,” said Mehta.

The results of the Retail Site Intelligence project demonstrate why this trend is gaining momentum,” said Parag Mehta, CMO at eInfochips.

One of the world’s largest retailers, Kroger employs more than 375,000 associates serving customers in 2,640 supermarkets and multi-department stores in 34 states in the US. The company also operates 786 convenience stores, 320 fine jewelry stores, 1,240 supermarket fuel centers and 38 food processing plants in the US.
