Shrinking sales has brought together television manufacturers of different hues. Burying their differences, TV majors are coming together to push for policy changes required to give the sagging sector the much-required push.

BPL Ltd, which has not been part of the Consumer Electronics and TV Manufacturers Association (Cetma) and Sony India, which recently resigned as a member of the body, are now attending industry meetings being organised by Cetma addressing the concerns of the manufacturers. TV sales have shown a negative growth of 15-16 per cent during the past four months and there are no signs of respite yet.

In a sluggish market, there is a now a growing realisation that cutting prices may ultimately be a wrong strategy. Cetma has decided to organise nationwide seminars, where representatives of all companies including BPL and Sony are expected to attend, in a bid to educate the trade about ways to expand the market.
