The FM radio operators have urged the information and broadcasting (I&B) ministry to create a taskforce within 10 days for looking into the issue of replacing the existing licence fee model with a revenue sharing model. It has also urged that the taskforce should submit its recommendation within 30 days.
The suggestions were made by the players at a meeting held last week with the Union minister for information and broadcasting Ravi Shankar Prasad.
The meeting was attended by industry big-wigs including Aroon Purie (India Today), Peter Mukerjea (Star), Vineet Jain (The Times group), Tariq Ansari (Midday group) and Gautam Radia (Millenium Broadcast).
The group has also told the ministry that if the issue is not looked at then all the FM radio broadcasters will be `reluctantly forced
