The Goa Bench of Bombay High Court today issued a contempt notice to Sesa Goa for allegedly violating its order on the transport of iron ore.

Environmentalist Ramesh Gauns had moved the high court in this regard.

Justice FM Reis issued notices to Sesa Goa, its Managing Director PK Mukherjee and Chief Operating Officer Pramod Unde.

The contempt petition was filed after Gauns handed over two lists of violations of the high court's order, compiled by the director of transport in south and north Goa.

Accordingly, a large number of trucks carrying ore from Sesa's mines were found to be violating high court's guidelines on how the ore should be transported on public roads, to minimise the dust pollution and accidents.

The petition also encloses several letters written by senior police officers to the higher-ups and to the collectors naming the trucks of Sesa Goa for persistent violation of the directions given by the high court.

The petition states that as Sesa Goa is the largest exporter of ore from the state, its conduct is setting a bad example.

The court has given the respondents two weeks to file reply.
