Honda Cars India will recall 11,381 vehicles, primarily of the Accord car, to replace faulty air bags.

This follows Thursday's announcement by its Japanese parent company to recall nearly five million vehicles for this reason.

This is the third recall by the Indian subsidiary in less than a year. With Friday's announcement, the total number of voluntary recalls in India has crossed 800,000 units since July 2012, when the automobile industry association announced a policy on this for members.

All the Honda recalls have been about faulty air bags. In October last year, the company recalled 2,338 units of the Brio, Amaze and CR-V, manufactured between 2011 and 2014. In July 2014, it recalled 1,338 units of the Accord and CR-V, manufactured between 2002 and 2003.

The Indian company said it would replace the driver-side airbag inflator in 10,805 units of the Accord manufactured between 2003 and 2007, as part of the company's global recall/safety improvement campaign concerning these. Also, 575 units of the CR-V, a sports utility vehicle would be recalled.

The company said there was no incident related to the faulty airbags in India. The replacement will be free of cost at the company's dealerships across the country.
