JSW Energy Ltd announced today that Unit I of 300MW of the 4x300MW power project at Jaigad, Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra, has been successfully commissioned and has achieved commercial operation date (COD) from September 01, 2010.
Power utility JSW Energy's four Maharashtra power units and six Rajasthan ones are expected to be operational by March 2011. To augment raw material supplies, the firm, which had acquired a majority stake in South African Coal Mining Holding in April, is on the lookout for more coal mines.
Overall JSW Energy will require 6 million tonnes of coal per annum when all the projects start functioning.
Before the commencement of this project, JSW Energy had 995 Mw of operational capacity and 2,145 Mw is under construction. By 2015, it aims to generate 11,390 Mw.
The company sells 60 per cent of output as merchant power and the rest as long-term contracts.
