Mahindra & Mahindra's (M&M's) commuter segment bike Stallio's production fell drastically by 81% in the last three months to just 139 units in February, while sales plummeted to just 46 units during the month following problems in the product.

According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Mahindra Two Wheelers had produced 716 units of Stallio in December, 2010.

However, after problematic parts started pinching the company, the production started to fall. In January, the production of the 110cc entry-level bike came down to 421 units and it further fell to 139 units in last month.

In terms of sales, M&M sold just 46 units of Stallio in February as against 256 units in December 2010.

Earlier last month, the company had admitted that the bike is having problems which needed rectification.

"We are in constant communication with our valued customers and are aware that certain parts of the bike require some fine tuning and adjustment in a small proportion of the product," M&M had said in a website posting on February 21.

"As a responsible customer centric brand, we are pro-actively addressing the same to ensure customer satisfaction," it added.

In September last year, M&M had entered the high-revenue motorcycle segment by launching two models at both ends of the spectrum -- Stallio and Mojo -- a premium 300cc offering.

The company had roped in Bollywood star Aamir Khan to promote the Stallio.
