Marriott’s fourth property around Pune, the Courtyard by Marriott (CBM) Pune Chakan will be open to guests by the end of the first quarter of 2013 confirmed Ritu Chawla, general manager, Courtyard by Marriott Pune Chakan.

This will be the second Courtyard serving the Pune market apart from one convention centre too. Then what was the need for one more property? “Chakan is home to a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) promoted by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). It is strategically located in the NorthWest corridor of Pune and has witnessed an extensive industrial growth in the area. It is about 150 kilometres from Mumbai, 120 kilometres (75 mi) from Ahmednagar and 175 kilometres from Nashik. Chakan also has been a wholesale agricultural produce trading hub and now the ever evolving automobile hub. We believe that in the years to come, the Chakan landscape will transform itself into a world class manufacturing zone and residential hub. Considering this long term development potential we planned this property here,” says Chawla.

Marriott says it expects that approximately 70 per cent demand for hotel rooms will come from various manufacturing units based at the MIDCs in and around Chakan. Extended stay demands could come from companies that are either setting their units or are under expansion.

“The demand for our food and beverages outlets and banquet facilities is also likely to become robust especially for corporate lunches and day conferences and later on from residential hubs,” adds Chawla.

Furthermore, as a probable site for the proposed Pune International Airport is around the Shiroli and Chandus villages, which are located around 5 kilo metre north of Chakan, the international luxury hotels group must also be planing to cash in on that opportunity.

According to Chawla, The Red Stone Group, headquartered out of Mumbai, run by the Ladak family is building this Chakan property and it will be operated and managed by Marriott.

CBM Chakan will be a 4-star 175 keys property with a combination of deluxe and executive rooms and suites, with facilities in this property spanning 4 acre of land. This will be Marriott’s 10th Courtyard property in India.
