Having bagged an ISO 9001-2008 certification, the Metro Link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA) Company Ltd's now plans to bid for global consultancy projects.

According to the special purpose vehicle set up for executing the metro rail project between Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad in Gujarat, the certification will now help MEGA bid for contracts for consultancy services for metro rail projects across the globe.

Recently, MEGA was recognised by Stancert Assessors (P) LTD with the ISO 9001:2008 certification for planning, design and construction of metro rail project. ISO 9001 is a global quality management standard to certify an organization's quality management system, while Stancert is an international group specialized in providing certification, auditing and training services for a comprehensive range of management systems in relation to internationally recognized standards.

Under the consultancy projects, MEGA will render services that include making detailed project reports (DPRs), conducting feasibility studies for metro projects and consulting assignments on aspects like design, planning, and execution.

According to MEGA, the company has gained expertise as well as confidence in its ability for such consulting assignments as the entire concept, planning and design for the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar metro has been developed in-house. "This experience has given the company global capabilities and will also open a fresh revenue stream for the company enabling it to break even faster," it stated in an official communique.

As for the metro rail project in Gujarat, core infrastructure works will begin in fourth quarter of year 2013 and Phase I is scheduled to be completed by August, 2017. The entire project including Phase II will be fully operational in March 2021 at an estimated project cost of Rs 19000 crore.
