US payrolls rise more than expected; excellent, says Biden
US employment increased more than expected in May, while the unemployment rate held steady at 3.6 per cent, signs of a tight labour market that can keep the Federal Reserve's foot on the brake pedal to cool demand. Non-farm payrolls increased by 390,000 jobs last month, the Labor Department said on Friday. President Joe Biden said that he expects to see more moderation in hiring in the coming months after an "excellent" jobs report from May.
