NewsWire18, the wire agency providing financial data and news, has been renamed as Cogencis Information Services. This move is a result of the agreement between media conglomerate Network18 with Samara Capital, to divest the former's entire stake in the financial data and news terminal business. The news agency has been rechristened following the completion of the change in ownership.

In a note to its subscribers, Kalyan Ram, Executive Editor of the wire agency said, "Cogencis continues to be managed by the same journalists and management team, and will deliver news and data based with the same level of integrity and independence as before."

In December last year, Raghav Bahl-promoted Network18 had entered into an agreement with Samara Capital to divest its stake in NewsWire18. Network18 was the majority shareholder in NewsWire18, having incubated the company with the founding CEO, Pankaj Aher and his team.

This move was in line with its stated objective of divesting non-core assets profitably to allow greater focus on its core television and digital businesses. When the agreement was signed in December, it was revealed that NewsWire18 will also be rechristened over the next 90 days as a result of the transaction.
