Country's largest power producer NTPC today said its installed capacity has gone up to 36,014 MW, with the commissioning of another 660 MW unit at the Sipat plant in Chattisgarh.
State-run NTPC's Sipat project now has a total installed capacity of 2,320 MW.
"With the commissioning of Unit 2 of 660 MW of NTPC -Sipat Super Thermal Power Project situated in Chhattisgarh the total installed capacity of NTPC has become 36,014 MW," NTPC said in a statement.
This is NTPC's second unit that has been commissioned with super critical thermal power technology that ensures high efficiency.
The beneficiary states of Sipat plant are Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharastra, Gujarat, Goa, Daman & Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli.
Sipat plant has two stages, having a capacity of 2,980 MW. "Stage 1 consists of three 660 MW super critical technology based units and Stage II consists of two 500 MW units based on traditional coal fired technology," the statement said.
State-owned NTPC plans to have 1,28,000 MW generation capacity by 2032.
Currently, NTPC has 15 coal-based, 7 gas-based and 6 joint venture power stations
The entity generated 220.54 billion units (BUs) of electricity during 2010-11, contributing more than 27% of total power generation in India.
