The companies which made the commitment include Tata Steel, Indian Oil Corporation, Moser Baer Infrastructure & Developers and others. Meanwhile, sixteen companies have shown interest to invest around Rs 42,400 crore in the State.
Speaking on the motion of thanks to the governor for his address in the assembly today, Jayalalithaa said “industrial groups that had signed MOUs with the previous DMK government have not invested even a single rupee”.
She was responding to DMK Leader M K Stalin's claim that during the DMK regime between 2006 and 2011, the State attracted around Rs 62,000 crore. She said 12 industries which committed investments to the tune of Rs 15,982 crore have not started their investments.
“Tata Steel which had promised an investment of Rs 2,500 crore has not invested even a single rpee in the state. Similarly, Indian Oil Corporation (Rs 4,320 crore), Signet Solar (Rs 2,000 crore) and Moser Baer Infrastructure & Developers (Rs 2,000 crore), have not started anything here”, Jayalalithaa said.
Rest of the companies have invested Rs 36,366.28 crore and this amount include investments, which came post 2011, Jayalalithaa led-AIADMK government took charge of the State administration in May 2011.
Jayalalithaa claims that in the last two-and-half years investments worth Rs 29,558 crore are being implemented in the state and around Rs 10,660 crore worth of projects have been invested by the industries after allotment of land and other necessary permissions.
She further said, 16 corporates have expressed their interest to invest Rs 42,400 crore in Tamil Nadu and they would be given a final shape in one or two months time.
Quoting Central Statistical Organisation, Jayalalithaa said in 2008-09 number of industries in Tamil Nadu was 26,122 which was increased to 40,352 by end of March, 2013.
