Cricket star Rahul Dravid will now bat for investment in the mineral rich state of Chhattisgarh.

The cricketer had declared his retirement from One Day Internationals and T20 in August this year. Now, he is in search of dream destinations for investing in the corporate business especially in the power sector.

Dravid, just three days ago, visited Chhattisgarh on a visit that was kept a top secret and kept away from the public glare. He landed here in a chartered plane and later visited the new capital area where Satya Sai Baba trust is building a hospital.

The next day, Dravid left for Bilaspur in the same chartered plane from where he drove to Akaltara in Champa-Janjgir district where as many as two dozen power plants were proposed to come up. But the former Indian cricket captain visited an upcoming site of a 3600-Mw power plant. A Hyderabad-based company is setting up the project.

“Dravid stayed in the plant site for more than two hours and even told the people that he would now frequently visit the area,” a top administrative official in Janjgir-Champa district told Business Standard. Though the purpose of Dravid’s visit to the site of an upcoming project could not be established, but it could be linked with cricketer’s plan to enter as investor in the power sector, the official added.

A senior official in the directorate of sport said that Dravid’s Chhattisgarh visit had nothing to do with any sports activities. “It was his personal visit and no sports organisation in the state had invited him for any function,”the official clarified.

Dravid later met Chief Minister Raman Singh. The official sources of the state government did not reveal the details of the talks that took place between the two and termed it as a ‘courtesy visit’ of the cricketer.
