Ludhiana-based Rishiganga Power Corporation Ltd, with its first hydel project in the final stage in Uttarakhand, is in expansion mode.

The company recently bagged a 5 Mw hydel project in Himachal Pradesh and is in talks with the Sikkim government about new ventures.

The company entered into hydropower sector in Uttarakhand where it was allotted 8.25 Mw of the project at the hilly Rini area in Chamoli district. The project having three units of 2.75 Mw each is now in the final stage, the company officials here said.

The company is investing Rs 50-55 crore in this project, which is being constructed on the river Rishiganga, a tributary of Alaknanda river.

For the construction of the project, the company has awarded transport contracts to the local people for what it called better management.

“We are working with the local people, which gives us tremendous leverage since the area is very remote,” said the official.
